TPO ban from September 1, 2025
TPO Ban as of September 1, 2025
One thing first: Our products have been completely free of TPO for many years.
In the EU and Switzerland, a sales and usage ban for all cosmetic products containing TPO (Trimethylbenzoyl-Diphenylphosphine Oxide) will come into effect on September 1, 2025.
TPO is a photoinitiator that was often used in gels and gel polishes. Due to its classification as a CMR substance Category 1B (may impair fertility), it will be completely banned from this date according to EU Regulation 2024/197.
What does this mean if you still have such products from other suppliers?
- Until August 31, 2025, TPO-containing products may still be used and sold.
- As of September 1, 2025, the use, sale, and storage of such products will no longer be permitted – not even privately or in salons.
- Remaining stock must be disposed of – there will be no sell-off or transition period.
Why the ban?
TPO has been classified as a CMR substance (carcinogenic, mutagenic, or toxic to reproduction) in Category 1B and is therefore prohibited under the EU Cosmetics Regulation.
What should you do now?
- Check your stock for products containing TPO.
- Plan your switch to TPO-free alternatives in good time.
- Feel free to contact us – we will advise you on suitable, legally compliant replacement products.
